Myomectomy
Uterine fibroids, also called fibroids, are benign (non-cancerous) tumors that can grow underneath the uterine lining, inside the uterine wall or outside the uterus. Many women don't feel any symptoms with uterine tumors or fibroids. But for others, these fibroids can cause excessive menstrual bleeding, abnormal periods, uterine bleeding, pain, discomfort, frequent urination and/or infertility.
Treatments include uterine fibroid embolization to shrink the tumor and/or surgery. Surgical treatment for uterine tumors can include the removal of the entire uterus, via hysterectomy, or myomectomy, a uterine-preserving procedure performed to remove fibroids.
The conventional approach to myomectomy is open surgery, through a large abdominal incision. Woodland Heights Medical Center offers a minimally invasive approach to myomectomy through robot-assisted surgery to reduce scarring, hospital stay and recovery time.

Before you decide on surgery, discuss treatment options with your doctor. Understanding the risks and benefits of each treatment can help you make the best decision for your individual situation.
