Breast MRI
Often used to investigate breast concerns first detected with mammography, physical exam or other imaging exams, breast MRI is a test used to distinguish between benign and malignant tissues. Performing this test may reduce the number of breast biopsies to evaluate a suspicious breast mass.
Breast MRI can also be used for staging breast cancer to determine the most appropriate treatment, as well as for patient follow-up after breast cancer treatment. Most women under 40 years of age do not get annual mammograms; however, the American Cancer Society has recommended that women at very high risk of developing breast cancer have an annual MRI exam, in addition to mammograms, to increase the chances of early detection when the cancer is most treatable.
Woodland Heights Medical Center is committed to the fight against breast cancer. In addition to breast MRI, we also provide digital mammography and automated breast ultrasound.
Please note that a breast MRI does not replace a mammogram and you must have a doctor's order.
