Woodland Heights Nurse Obtains IBCLC

Lufkin Texas (June 30, 2022) – Brittany Irwin, R.N., BSN, Woodland Heights’ lactation counselor, has a new credential to add to her name. She is now an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) with the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE).

The vision of the IBLCE is that they are valued worldwide for advancing global public health and is the most trusted source for credentialing practitioners in lactation and breastfeeding care.

“I have been passionate about lactation since 2018 after having difficulty breastfeeding my daughter with limited resources,” states Irwin. “I became a lactation counselor in 2020 and am so proud to have earned my IBCLC this summer. Helping other mothers on their breastfeeding journey is an honor.”

Brittany’s path to earn her IBCLC took her through 95 hours of lactation education and 1,000 hours of clinical practice. With this certification, Irwin will continue to serve WHMC patients and the community through helping new mothers obtain their feeding goals, educating mothers prior to delivery and outpatient services post-delivery.
