Woodland Heights Medical Center Recognized for Excellence with ACC Electrophysiology Accreditation

Lufkin, Texas — The American College of Cardiology has recognized Woodland Heights Medical Center for its demonstrated expertise and commitment in treating patients who come to an electrophysiology (EP) lab for care. Woodland Heights was awarded Electrophysiology Accreditation in June based on rigorous onsite evaluation of the staff’s ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients who come to the EP lab.
Electrophysiology labs provide care for patients with arrythmias and may employ treatments such as cardiac ablation and implantable devices such as pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators.
“Woodland Heights has demonstrated its commitment to providing Angelina County and the surrounding counties with excellent heart care,” said Deepak L. Bhatt, M.D., MPH, FACC, chair of the ACC Accreditation Management Board. “ACC Accreditation Services is proud to award Woodland Heights with Electrophysiology Accreditation.”
Hospitals receiving Electrophysiology Accreditation from the ACC must take part in a multi-faceted clinical process that involves: completing a gap analysis; examining variances of care; developing an action plan; a rigorous onsite review; and monitoring for sustained success. Improved methods and strategies of caring for patients include streamlining processes, implementing guidelines and standards, and adopting best practices in the precise care of EP lab patients. Facilities that achieve accreditation meet or exceed an array of stringent criteria and have organized a team of doctors, nurses, clinicians, and other administrative staff that earnestly support the efforts leading to better patient education, improved patient outcomes, and more effective and efficient disease control.
“The team at Woodland Heights takes great pride in the care we provide our patients and I am so proud of our team,” states Drew Emery, CEO of Woodland Heights. “We are honored that the ACC recognizes the effort and dedication put forth.”
Previously, Woodland Heights has also been recognized as an Accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI, the first Accredited Cardiac Cath Lab in the area and been named Heart Care Center by the American College of Cardiology.
The ACC offers U.S. and international hospitals like Woodland Heights access to a comprehensive suite of cardiac accreditation services designed to optimize patient outcomes and improve hospital financial performance. These services are focused on all aspects of cardiac care, including the EP lab.
