Woodland Heights Medical Center Partners to Offer Donor Milk for Mothers
2/13/2024
Woodland Heights Medical Center is excited to announce that we now have pasteurized donor human milk available to our NICU population!
There are many variables that make it increasingly difficult for mothers of premature infants to establish a breast milk supply. When a mother’s own milk is not available, donor human milk is the next best option. Benefits of donor breast milk are especially important to our NICU population. Immunological properties of donor human milk help prevent complications such as necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) as well as many other obstacles of prematurity and can enhance survivability for our most fragile infants in the NICU.
Woodland Heights Medical Center receives donor human milk from Mothers Milk Bank of North Texas (MMBNT), a nonprofit organization that provides pasteurized donor human milk to fragile infants. MMBNT is a proud member of the Human Milk Banking Association of North America and follows rigorous safety and quality assurance procedures for all donor screening, milk processing and distribution.
