Tina Alexander Sellers
is News Director for KTRE-TV in Lufkin, Texas, which is one
of 15 television stations owned by Liberty Corporation. She
is responsible for overseeing all newscasts and News
Department operations and personnel. She also produces a
weekly feature called "Somebody's Got To Do It" which
highlights interesting jobs that keep East Texans working.
In addition, Ms. Alexander-Sellers produces "Inside East
Texas," a monthly public affairs show to keep viewers
informed on topics relating to crime, education, medical
technologies, health services, the economy, youth and other
pressing issues facing our local community. She has worked
as an anchor, reporter, News Director and all points in
between.
Ms. Alexander-Sellers is
a native of Lufkin, Texas and a graduate of Lufkin High
School. She received her degree in Communications from
Stephen F. Austin State University. She is married to
George Sellers. They have two children, Adam and Amber.
Ms. Alexander-Sellers
has received numerous awards for her work in broadcasting
and her service to the community. These include the
Pinnacle Award from the Citizens Chamber of Commerce; "Woman
of the Year" from Alpha Kappa Alpha, Eta Epsilon Chapter;
the "Outstanding Woman in Broadcasting" award from AAUW; the
"Outstanding Leadership in Agricultural" Journalism award;
and the "Outstanding Community Service" award from the Top
Ladies of Distinction; recognition from Young Women in
America; and Distinguished Service awards from Special
Olympics.
She is very active in
the community. Ms. Alexander-Sellers currently is serving
as a member of the Texas State Crimestoppers Board of
Directors, Women’s Shelter of East Texas, Board of Directors
for the Angelina County Chamber of Commerce (2001 Chairman),
and is a member of the Chamber Coalition for a Better
Community. Ms. Alexander-Sellers is a graduate of
Leadership Lufkin and the National Association of
Broadcasting Management Development Program. She is on the
Board of Directors of Angelina Beautiful Clean (2000
Chairman), volunteers with the H.O.S.T.S. (Helping One
Student to Succeed) mentoring program and is active with the
Angelina County United Way. She is a member of the Junior
League of Lufkin (2000 Provisional Trainer), and the Lufkin
High School Alumni Association board. The Sellers family
attends Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Lufkin, where Ms.
Alexander-Sellers is Youth Sponsor and Treasurer of the
Usher Board.
In addition, Ms.
Alexander-Sellers is a McCormick Tribune Fellow and a member
of the Radio-Television News Directors Association, the
National Association of Black Journalists and the Stephen F.
Austin State University Alumni Association.
