Woodland Heights has been serving the East Texas community
for more than 80 years.
Our
rich history dates back to 1918 when the hospital opened as,
"The Lufkin Hospital" and was Angelina County's first
medical facility.
Bought
by HCA (Hospital Corporation of America) from the county
in 1979, Woodland Heights was relocated to Gaslight
Boulevard (its current location) in 1982. In May of
1998, major renovations and additions added 65,000
square feet of medical facilities. Currently, the
hospital operates 149 beds and has approximately 650
employees. The year of 2006 brought many renovations,
including upgrades in technology hospital-wide, along
with new beds, flat screen televisions, flooring, & wall
coverings for most patient rooms. Woodland Heights is
under the guidance of a local governing Board of
Trustees.
Woodland Heights Medical Center gained national recognition
for its excellence in heart care. The hospital's Heart
Center has performed thousands of open heart surgeries and
heart catheterization procedures since 1988.
Woodland
Heights continues to actively recruit physicians into the
local medical community. Among the specialists recruited are
cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, general family
practice, general surgery, and internal medicine. WHMC also
operates three physician-operated clinics in neighboring
communities. These clinics provide health care to East
Texas' rural populations and provides referrals to the
Lufkin medical community.
At WHMC, we pride ourselves on bringing not only
state-of-the-art technology to our patients and community,
but also the most up-to-date medical facilities and the most
knowledgeable professional staff in our region.
