Introduction to
Prepared Childbirth
Expectant parents enrolled in this class are
provided with information to help them be physically and
emotionally prepared for the childbirth experience.
Each session last four weeks - each Tuesday night for
four weeks.
In this program, the stages of labor and birth are
presented through discussion and film. Relaxation
and breathing techniques are demonstrated and practiced.
Also, the support person learns how to be an "effective
coach."
A local pediatrician will visit during one class to
provide essential information such as basic infant care,
nutrition, breast and bottle feeding and newborn growth
and development.
And, one class includes a tour of the labor and delivery
area and a presentation by anesthesia professionals
discussing the options available to the expectant mother
during childbirth.
Participants also learn infant CPR and basic life
support. This class is
recommended in the sixth or seventh month of pregnancy.
